How to Visit Antarctica
(And why they make it so difficult)

What You Can't Do
Photography Restrictions
- • No photos of certain research stations
- • No aerial photography in restricted zones
- • All photos reviewed before leaving
- • Drones prohibited in most areas
Access Restrictions
- • No independent travel without guides
- • Certain areas completely off-limits
- • No approaching military installations
- • Interior requires government clearance
The Antarctic Treaty (1961) governs all access.
Every activity on the continent must be approved. No exceptions. The official reason? Environmental protection. The uncomfortable question? If it's just ice and penguins, what needs protecting from tourists with cameras?
